I cant have recording latency enabled because that would interfere with vocals. Is there a way to fix this? L9, mac 8 core, amt8. My Studio. I use this to fix the inherent MIDI latency in the system, something that isn’t really related to Logic Pro as a sequencer. Be aware that there’s no perfect setting for all units, so if you plan on bouncing the external instrument later think about re-aligning the track manually afterwards.
To find the best setting you can either use your ear or track with different settings and see how it aligns visually. Remember that any minor fluctuations in timing aren’t related directly to Logic Pro.
My understanding is that there are several points of latency with different ways to ‘fix’ each: Perceptual playback that you ‘hear’ is always a bit later than what is currently being calculated and thus also aligned with the recording. Low buffer sizes these days make this seem negligable when it may still affect what is recorded enough to care.
Latency introduced by the output of your midi keyboard this exists, but is normally so low we don’t account for it. This comes after the above. Delay compensation introduced latency of course increases the first source of timing issues even more, for which there are several ‘working methods’ in Logic. You seem to be skipping this for now Add all of those up and you might find that things are ms “out of time” upon playback of recorded midi, or more in some cases.
Some of that jitter is just due to the nature of midi, and note that even pressing several keys at the same time while manipulating a sysex based control can introduce some latency in the midi stream.
So editing it in post is probably the easiest way to deal with this, I agree with the above posters. Also, I think between the switchable PDC modes, live input mode, careful thought to your ‘monitored’ channels’ signal paths and possibly switching your automation mode to a lower mode which decreases cpu overhead I think you can still utilize PDC, though it seems you prefer not to.
